BASF announced today the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) registration of a new active ingredient, Kixor herbicide, for use on a wide range of no-till crops and effective on more than 70 broadleaf weeds. Starting this fall, four formulations Powered by Kixor herbicide — Sharpen herbicide, OpTill herbicide, Integrity herbicide and Treevix herbicide — will be available to help growers tackle today’s weed control challenges in their fields.

Today, Monsanto Company (NYSE: MON) outlined changes to its Roundup brand agricultural herbicide business which are expected to result in more competitive offerings for U.S. farmers. Business changes include adjusting the price of its Roundup brand agricultural herbicides; investing in U.S. manufacturing capacity to help provide a long-term, reliable supply; and continuing to invest in product quality and new innovations while helping farmers manage risk.

Grower acceptance of genetically engineered (GE) corn, soybean and cotton has certainly been dramatic since the introduction of this technology 13 years ago. Many growers have used these herbicide and insect traits to boost yields while reducing production costs with more environmentally friendly farming practices.
