A few weeks ago, I asked Dan Towery for his best guess as to what the no-till acreage might be as we approach the end of this decade.

While less than 2% of America’s cropland is seeded to cover crops, a remarkable 77% of no-tillers enjoy the many benefits offered by protecting the soil over the winter months.

If, after reading this month’s “Frank Comments” column, you have the idea I’m irritated and disappointed, you will be right. It’s because no-tillers don’t receive the recognition they deserve for being innovators behind today’s soil health and ag sustainability movements.

David Hula harvested the highest yield ever recorded in the national corn yield contest. The Charles City, Va., grower turned in a yield of 532 bushels per acre in the 2015 National Corn Growers Association contest.

Would landowners in your area rent ground to a no-tiller or strip-tiller for fewer dollars than to farmers using other conservation systems or even conventional tillage?
