On-demand access to an exclusive virtual workshop, "Building Disease Suppressive Soils, Higher Yields with the Plant Health Pyramid"

While the science behind soil health is important, the ultimate goal for most no-tillers is building a farm ecosystem that is regenerative and capable of helping them be low-cost producers with profitable operations. There are definitive, practical steps to achieving both soil health and plant health through achieving steps outlined in the Plant Health Pyramid, says John Kempf.

In this exclusive workshop, the crop health consultant and founder of Advancing Eco Agriculture, based in Middlefield Ohio, will provide a comprehensive look at this pyramid and how growers can progress through each step toward achieving complete photo and protein synthesis and increasing lipids and plant secondary metabolites that will ultimately establish complete pest and disease resistance in soils and build the highest level of plant and soil health.

Dawn Equipment Co.

Dawn Equipment, a family owned company in Sycamore, Ill., has a reputation for responsive customer service and American-made quality products that goes back to its earliest beginnings more than two decades ago. Those beginnings were in a friendship that Jim and Margaret Bassett made in a local church.

Steve Faivre knew Jim had worked in engineering for John Deere, and asked him to do some drawings of a T-shaped knife for ridge till applications. This first step set the stage for the trash wheel and Dawn’s entry into the burgeoning field of no-till farming.

Dawn’s pattern of quick responsiveness to the changing needs of American farmer was established with that first design initiative – a specific tool to meet a new way of tillage. And Dawn remains that company where dealers and farmers can call for advice or to complain when a product encounters problems. Dawn sales staff will even recommend a competitor’s product if they feel it will be more appropriate.

Dawn has always taken new products out for testing in real world situations: the farms of loyal customers who discovered Dawn and felt an instant connection to designers and engineers who listened to there needs, and were willing to get cold, muddy, and dusty.

After those earliest years, Dawn grew fast, and took on projects that were ground breaking, ambitious, and even risky. Chief among these was the Pardigm planter, which incorporated user features that would still be ground breaking today.

The company has grown to more than 40 employees and numerous products, earned awards for innovative design plus a growing number of patents, but it has not lost it's commitment to U.S. made products. And customers and dealers can still call to speak directly with sales and engineering staff. Dawn has redefined several market segments like strip-till and active hydraulic control of planter and attachments. Dawn was the first company to make a remotely controllable planting product.

Dawn continues its commitment to innovation, to customer service, and to active response to the changing needs of America’s farmers.

Founded in Central Illinois, Precision Planting focuses on developing smart products that improve planting, liquid application and harvest operations on farms across the world. The company is also well-known for its unique and proven approach to addressing the current agronomic issues facing farmers and providing practical educational resources for improvement.

Precision Planting is different from other technology companies in that it takes the farmer’s existing equipment and maximizes the performance of the machinery. Adapting Precision Planting technologies is easy for farmers, saving them time and money, and making their planting and liquid applications more efficient.

Precision Planting technologies have made the first pass with the planter the most important field trip all season long for thousands of farmer-customers who are able to seed a field or apply nutrients or seed treatments in a variable-rate method, with precise placement.

New technologies from Precision Planting are opening doors for farmers to take advantage of the data they collect on every field pass, from planting to harvest, and to use that data to increase production and profit potential by better managing input costs and ensuring the seeds they plant maintain their top-end yield potential at emergence and beyond.

In 2018, Precision Planting opened the Precision Technology Institute (PTI) in Pontiac, Ill., a 200-acre agronomic research site, as well as a location where farmers can experience Precision Planting technologies and products in a real-farm environment. PTI is an educational site that brings agronomy, new technology and equipment to the forefront for the industry. Research at PTI focuses on creating best-use agronomic practices for precision ag technologies. Results from PTI research are delivered at Winter Conference.

Saddle Butte Ag/Bio Till Cover Crops
biotill.saddlebutte.com/

As part of an international movement toward agricultural sustainability, cover crops are considered key to managing soil quality, erosion, water, weeds, pests, diseases, pollinators, and wildlife. Our goal became to create a ‘toolbox’ of warm and cool-season cover crops and mixes to help farmers – in all regions and production systems – protect and enhance their soil between cash crop plantings.

The Bio Till Cover Crops brand was created in 2009 to encompass the cover crop products that were of particular interest to the no-till, strip-till, and conservation-minded communities. While strategic use of cover crops adds organic matter to the soil and reduces the need for tillage, studies have shown dramatic increases in active and total soil organic matter under continuous no-tillage systems. Over the years, we have continually added high-performing new products including Bounty Annual Ryegrass, Enricher Radish, Newbie Sugar Beets, Shield Broadleaf Mustard, Bayou Kale, African Forage Cabbage, and Mihi Persian Clover throughout the Midwest and the rest of the world.

Bio Till Cover Crops have consistently been at the forefront of the cover crop market, and our ‘family’ of professional sales staff and superior product lines remain committed to helping our customers achieve higher returns through more productive soils.
