The Lenawee Conservation District is hosting the 19th Center for Excellence Field Day on Wednesday, Aug. 19.
The field day begins with registration at the Bakerlads Farm on Camus Road northeast of Clayton at 8 a.m. The morning program will have four 30-minute concurrent sessions that focus on fuel storage on the farm, use of silicon agricultural nutrient management, soil health and long-term systems, and foliar feeding corn and soybeans.
There will also be two one-hour long trailer rides in the morning. One trailer ride will have several stops along the way that include a two-stage ditch project, conservation tillage, using biologicals in agriculture, foliar application of corn and soybeans and cover crop applications. The second trailer will visit a small woodlot where forest management practices will be discussed.
Attendees will be able to attend either all four 30-minute sessions, two sessions and one trailer ride, or both trailer rides.
The afternoon program will start with lunch at the Raymond and Stutzman Farm and will feature guest speaker John Phibbs, known for his agricultural commentary and columns. This will follow with three presentations, titled "Chesapeake Bay: A farmer's story," "360 Yield Center: Nitrogen Management in Corn," and "Wheat Seeding Trials: Ohio State University." There will also be a 90-minute trailer trip to a wheat field where there on-farm tile drainage. The program will end at 4:15 p.m. at the Raymond and Stutzman farms, where CCA and RUP credits will be credited.
