Event Description
Hosted by the Southeast Minnesota Cover Crop Consortium, the Cover Crop and Strip-Till Demonstration Day will feature:
- Nine different plantings of cover crop combinations.
- Root pits of each cover crop, showing depth of root expression, beneficial effects on soil compaction and reduction of erosion.
- Strip-till equipment running through each cover crop to show how they handle residue, and preparing a seedbed for next year.
- Interseeding of cover crops into V6 corn.
- Industry representatives on hand to discuss the merits of different cover-crop/strip-till systems.
- A producer panel featuring Jim Purfeerst of Rice County and Lowell Schafer and Jeff Beckman of Goodhue County, to talk about their experiences on using cover crops.
- A presentation on Iowa's Clean Water Initiative.
