Tilled Soil Explodes in Water, No-Tilled Soil ‘Glued’ Together

This Facebook post from the Jasper County Soil and Water Conservation District in Newton, Iowa, shows the striking difference between the health of tilled and no-tilled soil. The samples are the same soil type, and both have been in a corn-soybean rotation for more than 20 years. This photo, taken 2 minutes after both samples were placed in the water, shows how the no-tilled and cover cropped soil holds together, while the tilled soil exploded.


How to Identify Grass Weeds Early in the Season

Grass weeds are easier to distinguish once their seedheads emerge, but that’s well past the ideal stage to control them, warns Mark VanGessel, University of Delaware Extension weed scientist. He explains how to identify grasses early in the season in this video.
