Trump administration officials tout progress on farm reforms, but American Farm Bureau Federation President Zippy Duvall says shorter-term solutions are needed to fix "terrible imbalance" between prices and inputs costs.

In the latest edition of the No-Till Farmer podcast — brought to you by Yetter Farm Equipment, our editors attended Commodity Classic 2026 in San Antonio, which hosted U.S. Secretary Brooke Rollins, NRCS Secretary Aubrey Bettencourt and USDA Undersecretary Richard Fordyce.

At the recent Commodity Classic show in San Antonio, Rollins told ag media the trade situation for the U.S. is gradually improving, and input costs show some signs of coming down a bit. 

Taxpayers spent hundreds of millions of dollars for “ancient” technical architecture with 500 different custom-built system and databases managed by over 1,000 different contractors that cost more than $1 billion. 

USDA Secretary Brooke Rollins announced Tuesday that the massive agency will be required to change its research focus to be more in alignment with the needs of farmers.

Our government hasn’t adequately adapted to the changing realities of global trade. There needs to be more serious discussion in Washington about what practices our government chooses to incentivize.
