Farmers Consider No-Till Amid Record Diesel Prices

The most recent data from the U.S. Energy Administration shows the price of No. 2 Diesel has decreased sharply since June (from $5.745 per gallon to $4.993 per gallon as of September), but remains higher than the previous record high set in 2008 ($4.703 per gallon).

No-Till Savings No Longer ‘Chicken Feed’

Due to a tremendous increase in the price of diesel fuel, actual fuel-cost savings for no-tilling have shot up 606% in the past 15 years.

Treat the savings in fuel consumption per acre by switching to less tillage alone and you’ve definitely got a substantial savings.
