New Herbicide Will Help Weed Control In No-Tilled Corn

As the name suggests, a new pre-plant or pre-emergent herbicide named Keystone will help no-till corn growers do a better job of controlling grasses and broadleaf weeds next year.

“We see Keystone as the foundation product that growers will rely on to eliminate grasses and small-seeded broadleaves like waterhemp — a weed that is really driving weed-control programs throughout much of the Midwest,” says Ben Kaehler, senior marketing specialist for Dow AgroSciences. Featuring the same level of weed control that no-tillers have come to expect from FulTime, a tank-mix of Hornet and Keystone will provide one-pass, broad-spectrum weed control since Hornet provides effective control of many large-seeded broadleaf weeds.

This new acetochlor and atrazine combination features ease of handling since the suspo-emulsion formulation is less viscous than herbicides such as Degree Xtra. An advanced surfactant and additive package improves handling and keeps ingredients evenly dispersed, leading to improved weed control consistency.

Dow AgroSciences is also seeking registration of a herbicide with reduced rates of a next generation atrazine to be marketed under the Keystone brand name that will meet special local needs.
