Rocking Through Planting Season

Whether you're at the beginning of planting (gulp!) or near the end, we all know long days and potentially late nights bring out the goofy lip-syncers in all of us. No-Tillers are no different. The Peterson Farm Brothers of Kansas put out this parody of the AC/DC classic "You Shook Me All Night Long" on their Youtube, one of 29 similar agricultural parody music videos that have drawn more than 81 million views.

Dust In The Wind

Moving on temporarily with today's classic rock theme, this video of wind-blown soil and crop residue is enough to make your heart ache. Zack Smith, who goes by the Youtube and Twitter handle "Stock Cropper" captured a field-level view of stiff Iowa winds scouring soil. All we are is dust in the wind.

Memorial Day Tornadoes Strike South-Central Minnesota

A wave of storms that swept through South Central Minnesota over the Memorial Day weekend played hell with agricultural buildings and infrastructure. No fatalities or injuries were directly associated with the storm according to news reports, but farmers were working to replace grain bins and clear the detritus amid an already uneven planting season caused by weather. At Larsen Farms in Corell, Minn., a farm originating in 1918, one farm grappled with cleanup in this Youtube video.

British Cover Crops Flourish

These images show winter barley and cover crops flourishing near Lincolnshire, including a quick dog-based height measurement with what looks like the world's most enthusiastic crop inspector, as captured by farmer Andrew Harker.

Minnesota Farmers Mix and Match With Closers

University of Minnesota Extension Educator Jennifer Hahn walks through a mix-and-match scheme on closing implements at an impressive-looking no-till field in Chisago County, part of the Lower St. Croix Watershed. Rather than use two identical closers, farmers are using one spiked and one smooth, which is better for the wet, heavy, and clay soils.

Make Spraying Fun!

Today's complex chemical mixtures usually have a combination of bulk, jugs, and dry products. The high value products usually come in small packages. Mixmate is the only system designed to measure and process these products quickly. Jugs are processed in about 12 seconds. The Mixmate Fusion has a high flow rate rinsing system to ease dry product measurement and induction. This makes mixing on demand a breeze!
