A no-tiller placed in the top three in the Illinois Wheat Association's 2023 Wheat Yield Contest. Kurt Sudholt of Clinton County, Ill., took third place with a yield of 141.88 bushels per acre, no-tilling FS InSPIRE wheat seed variety FS 624 on a 7.5-inch spacing.

Sudholt's test weight was 63.2, and his planting rate was 1.8 million. Gateway FS Crop Specialist Tyler Voss worked with Sudholt on the winning plot.

"FS InSPIRE FS 624 has been a great yielding wheat for us, with good test weight. Kurt's attention to detail in his high-management wheat program helped push its performance again this year. It's the best wheat he's raised, and I'm sure he'll be pushing for more next year," says Voss.

Danny Rubin of Fayette County won first place with a yield of 144.49 bushels per acre. He used minimum tillage and planted Pioneer 25R76 on an 8-inch row spacing. Second place was won by Triple P Farms of Effingham County, Ill., with a yield of 142.84 bushels per acre, using FS InSPIRE wheat seed variety FS 603 with a conventional tillage practice.
