According to the latest Crop Progress report from USDA, 20% of corn has emerged as of the week ended May 9. This surpasses the 8% reported emerged in the previous week, but fell below the 22% emerged in the same week last year. The 5-year average emergence rate for this week was 19%.

Some 67% of corn was reported planted in the same report, above both the 65% planted last year and the 46% planted in the week prior. The 5-year average planting rate for this week was 52%.

USDA also reported 42% of soybeans have been planted, an increase from the 36% planted by this point last year. This also surpasses the 22% 5-year average.

According to the report, 10% of soybeans have emerged, above the 6% reported emerged in the same week last year. Mississippi reported 50% of its soybeans emerged as of May 9, followed by Arkansas with 34% emerged.
