The Nauvoo, Ill., no-tiller says equidistant plant spacing is a major factor in a corn plant’s reproductive ability. Since corn plants compete with each other, maximizing each plant’s growth area minimizes this competition.

Corn breeders plan to raise yields with higher ear counts from higher populations, meaning no-tillers will move from 200 bushel yields with 30,000 ears and plants to harvesting 300 bushels from 45,000 ears and plants. Berry will share how 12-inch corn rows with plants spaced 12 inches apart may be the future for no-till corn production.
