One of the early pioneers in cover cropping, Steve Groff has 30 years of experience covering fields year-round on his 200-acre Lancaster County, Pa., farm. Continuing with his guiding motto of “Soil is meant to be covered,” the Holtwood, Pa., no-tiller has seen interest in cover crops skyrocket as farmers search for new ways to shave fertilizer costs or grow their own nitrogen.

Research has already shown that cover crops increase soil health and quality in a no-till rotation. Now, Groff will share what he’s learned about new, emerging cover crops from on-farm field-testing of 30 species of potential cover crops. You’ll learn which cover crops shows the most promise, and how a “cocktail” of cover crops are likely the best direction for improving no-till soil biology.
