Challenges, Opportunities For Sustainable Corn Stover Harvest (NNTC 2010 Presentation)- MP3 Download

$19.95

Product Details

Second-generation biofuels are being developed using cellulosic feedstock like corn stover rather than grains or oilseeds needed for food and feed. However, for stover harvest to be a sustainable practice, Doug Karlen says residue harvest must not degrade soil, water or air resources.

The soil scientist from the National Laboratory for Agriculture and the Environment in Ames, Iowa, will review 4 years of research using a single-pass combine to simultaneously harvest both grain and stover. Karlen will demonstrate how a portion of the corn stover produced can be sustainably harvested, but also explain how much stover must be returned in no-till fields to maintain soil organic matter, sustain soil structure, and prevent wind and water erosion.
