Phil Needham will outline some of the best strategies to improve stands and control seeding rates when using single- or double-disc no-till drills and air seeders. These tips can possibly gain you an additional 5 to 10 bushels per acre just by setting up seeding equipment properly.

In this practical session, the Calhoun, Ky., ag consultant will outline the weak links many producers encounter when no-tilling, especially when seeding into the high-yielding crops from the previous season. He will cover set-up and maintenance strategies required to maximize seed-to-soil contact and minimize hairpinning; the determination of ballast requirements; disc blade condition; and adjusting down pressure to achieve consistent residue cutting and uniform depth control.
