Martin R. Barbre, vice president of engagement and government relations for the farmer-led nonprofit, provides an overview of RIPE’s roadmap to advance a voluntary stewardship program that would offer farmers a reasonable return as part of a bipartisan federal climate policy.
The RIPE100 plan would reward farmers with $100 per acre from conservation practices that deliver public value through climate change mitigation, improvements to soil health, water quality and biodiversity, and other environmental services.
RIPE payments would also surpass the cost of practice implementation and input cost increases from climate policy.
