Fine-Tuning Your Combine for a Better No-Till Harvest
No-Till Innovator and Legend Marion Calmer returns to the NNTC stage with new insights on how to optimize combine settings for heavy no-till residue. The Alpha, Ill., farmer started no-tilling in 1988, but switched from 30-inch rows to 15-inch rows in 1996 when he started planting Bt genetics. To Calmer’s surprise, when he no-tilled 15-inch soybeans the following spring, the undecayed corn residue plugged his planter. Knowing something had to change, Calmer invented the award-winning BT chopper stalk roll to transform stalks into confetti. In this dynamic presentation, the 4-time NNTC Most Outstanding Speaker discusses how to tackle the challenges of harvesting high-yielding no-till corn, soybeans and wheat at high speeds. Calmer also shares simple ways to eliminate those pesky green pods and chaff in the grain tank during soybean harvest.
