THE EPA IS putting new restrictions on glyphosate to address weed resistance to the herbicide.
According to Reuters, the agency confirmed it will require a weed resistance management plan for glyphosate, but declined to give specifics. An EPA spokesperson told Reuters the requirements will be similar to those placed on Dow AgroSciences’ glyphosate and 2,4-D herbicide combination, Enlist Duo.
The EPA had a call with a committee of the Weed Science Society of America to discuss what the final plan should include.
University of Tennessee weed scientist Larry Steckel, who chairs the committee, says the group would express some concerns, particularly shortcomings it sees with the management plan in place for Enlist Duo. Steckel says the committee would like a plan that allows for state-specific provisions.
