CLASSROOM #15: A Multi-Faceted Approach to a Profitable No-Till System

Simply adopting no-till on the family farm wasn’t enough for Andrew Reuschel. His passion for improving soil health and profitability has morphed into a multitude of cropping systems and soil amendments that he utilizes on the 1,400-acre operation that his family has farmed for more than 125 years.

The Golden, Ill., no-tiller and participant in the Soil Health Partnership shares how he’s evolved his whole-farm system, which includes interseeding cover crops and companion cropping, planting bio-strips and using a compost-tea extract in furrow to boost fertility levels for corn and soybeans. He also shares some of the input efficiencies and cost savings he’s realized through conservation practices.
