ATTENDEES OF THE 2017 CONFERENCE WILL PICK UP Valuable tips, ideas and techniques from:

  • Neal Kinsey, Soil Fertility Expert, Charleston, Mo.
Neal will share several real-world examples of soil reports from across the Midwest to discuss nutrient imbalances that are often found and what should be taken to resolve these excesses or deficiencies in different soil types. He will also lead a classroom discussion about sulfur deficiencies and what you can do about them.
  • Wendy Taheri, Microbial Ecologist, TerraNimbus, LLC, Pelham, Ga.
Wendy will provide an introduction to arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF), how these enigmatic microbes provide a multitude of services that result in larger, stronger, healthier plants that are more likely to survive whatever Mother Nature throws their way and different mechanisms to employ to make your cropping system more resilient.
  • John & Alexander Young, No-Tillers, Herndon, Ky.
John and Alex will highlight the newly recognized advantages of no-till and explain why the ‘four Ps’ — Profit, Production, Progeny and Posterity — are so important. They will also share benefits they’re seeing by adding tile and irrigation to the water-management toolbox.
  • Johnny Hunter, No-Tiller, Essex, Mo.
Johnny will discuss the seismic changes he made to his operation by eliminating raised beds, going to 100% no-till, seeding multi species cover-crop mixes, planting ‘green’ and pioneering a more conservative approach to irrigation to improve soil health and profitability.
  • J.C. Cahill, University of Alberta Experimental Plant Ecologist
J.C. will share leading-edge research in plant behavior and discuss how this may change your understanding of plants and the way they function. Cahill will also lead a classroom session discussing the behavioral science underlying plant nutrition.
  • Mike Plumer, Retired Extension Agronomist for the University of Illinois
Mike will talk about the pros and cons of working with cover-crop mixes and how to get results with different cocktails without breaking the bank. Plumer will also host a classroom offering tips on terminating popular cover crops the right way.
