PLANTING COVER CROPS – THINGS TO CONSIDER BEFORE PLANTING IN YOUR NO-TILL SYSTEM

Equipment Technologies

Cover crops are all about soil health, one of the primary benefits of no-till. Though integrating cover crops into a no-till system is a fairly straightforward process, it’s important to do your homework before beginning. Cover crops are comprised of a variety of different species with specific effects on soil health. Ask the following questions when selecting cover crop species for your operation:

  1. What are my field soil types and conditions?
  2. What do I want my cover crops to accomplish?
  3. What rotational crops will I produce in my no-till cover crop system?
  4. How will I manage my cover crops at key times (planting, termination, etc.)?
