Unique Ways To Establish, Benefit From Cover Crops (NNTC 2010 Presentation)- MP3 Download
With some cover crops, the window to establish a thriving cover can be narrow. Untimely no-till seeding may result in spotty stands. Michigan State University is currently evaluating new ways to utilize cover crops in no-till systems.
Dale Mutch will describe a new manure land-application process — manure slurry-enriched cover crop seeding — that combines low-disturbance tillage, manure and seeding of a cover crop in one efficient operation.
The Michigan State University extension specialist and member of the Midwest Cover Crops Council will also share evaluations of a no-till organic soybean system conducted for 5 years where a rye cover crop and crimper/roller system has reduced tillage in organic systems.
