Best Practices For Managing Nitrogen In No-Till (NNTC 2012 Presentation) - MP3 Download
While the best management practices for nitrogen in no-till systems are similar to tillage systems, there are some important differences depending upon the nuances within one’s management system. As an example, University of Kentucky fertility specialist Lloyd Murdock says rates can change based upon organic-matter levels and cover-crop usage.
A speaker at the 1st National No-Tillage Conference in 1993, Murdock will share how application timing and row fertilizer needs are more important with soils that are less-than-well or moderately drained. He’ll share suggestions on additives that can improve nitrogen efficiency depending upon residue cover, the source of nitrogen used and time and method of application.
