clay soils - I think I have all my beans in the moisture about 1-1.5 inches deep. then the clay soils dry out and the seed is struggling. I have a 12-23 1780 jd planter wilth 13 wave coulters and seed firmers - pneumatic down pressure at 250 lbs

I drill w' a JD 750 @ 15". I also have heavy soils that crack in dry weather. I have a 2 bar harrow mounted on the rear of drill, helps drag trash over seed furrow shading the soil. So far I've been lucky.
A twisted chain behind planter should provide the comparative cover th help shade soil.

I am in a corn-soybean rotation and use a JD 750 drill for soybeans. I do nothing to the stalks after corn harvest due to shredding leads to piling of residue in ditches after heavy off-season rains. Leaving stalks attached helps. I plant at an angle to the corn rows.I AM having more issues with decomposition of stalks, likely due to using BT hybrids. Many stalks are still present and tough the year AFTER soybeans. I would like to know of some practical ways to manage this excess residue problem. Off-season rains are lifting residue in fields that were in soybeans the previous year and causing many problems around the numerous shallow ditches in my fields. I farm in Delaware.
