I have been notilling for over 20 years. Tried many closing wheels. All have good and bad about them but have always ended up back with the OE rubber wheels. I recently saw something on the "Thompson Wheel" . It sounds like an improvement over other closing wheels. Has anyone tried them against other closing wheels? What are the good and bad features obout them? In perticular, my situation is , No-till corn on corn, clay hills, challeges to close furrow in less than ideal conditions, down pressure issues with the spring and wheels, corn trash build up on wheels.

We have been using a 1240 Case planter for the past 2 years and have had a lot of problems with the seed trench closing. We put hydraulic down pressure on all corn rows and it did help but it's still not the solution. We have had most problems early in the season when the ground is cooler and more damp and where we use cover crops, and by the way, we use a lot of cover crops in our operation. We have to because we're in the Chesapeake Bay watershed. Closing the trench has been our biggest problem and any help would be appreciated. Martin has a spade closing wheel that fits this planter. Has anyone used that wheel on this planter and does it work? Are there other solutions?
