I am trying to chemfallow some wheat stubble and can't seem to kill anything. My main weed is kocia about 6 - 12 inches tall. I used 28 oz Roundup Ultra Max and Ammonium Sulfate. I got 0% kill. I tried 2 lbs atrazine quart oil and a sniff of Clarity. I think I am going to get about 50% with that. It is really hot and dry around here. Should I just wait for a rain to spray? The weeds are growing very slowly and I would like to kill them now. I am tired of buying chemicals and them not working. Fortunately I am only spraying small patches at first. Any body haveing the same trouble? Thanks.

Kochia is one tough weed to kill. You may have dust on the plant which is deactivating the Round-up. Maybe a little banvel in the Roundup would help. I would find the name of an ag extension weed scientist at your state ag college and give a him or her a call. Finding the school web site should fairly easy or go to your local extension agent. Chem dealers are usually pretty good about what works besta what is labeled, but some just like to sell chemicals.

Thanks, I can't use 2-4D around here. (west texas, cotton country) I can use banvil but am a little scared of it. Have cotton pretty close to my fields. Will it be ok if the wind is blowing away from the cotton when I spray but switches back toward it in the day? I was told that Clarity is about the same as Banvil. Is it?

clarity is basically the same chemical as banvil. there is a slight variation in the formula (clarity is a newer version), but they are both dicamba.

If it is hot and dry the weeds are probably stressed and trying to conserve moisture. When this happens the leaves don't take up chemicals well because the pores (stomata??) are closed up. Just thought of this the second time around. Give the weed scientist at Texas A & M a try, your helping pay their wages anyway.

I've used Aim a couple of times with good luck. As I understand it will kill the same plants that 2-4-D will kill and it won't float off. Cost about $3 acre. can mix it with round up. I used 1/3 of ounce of Aim, pint and half generic round up to get the grasses. I also used array in it and think it may help it work better, certainly seemed to make it drift less.

The one problem with Aim is that weeds, especially kochia must be small, under 4" in height. Spray early.

Hmmm. I didn't know about hard water problem. I don't think our water is very hard. I did add the AS. after I put in roundup. I better turn it around next time. We do have a dust problem. Confinement feed pens across the fence. About 50,000 head give or take 100,000. It just ruins most of our crops on that field. I think that coupled with stress is not going to let anything work. I better wait for a rain.
